MYO Mei Tai baby carrier

On my way to the V&A on Thursday I bumped into an American lady wearing a sling very similar to the Ergo carrier that I had loved and then lost during a flight a few months ago. It looked lovely, very snuggly and comfy for both mum and toddler. How I wished I had one then as I struggled, carrying my LO.

As my daughter was already 13 months when it disappeared, I forfeited buying another as it cost over £100 and figured it wasn't worth it. How wrong was I! She's 16 months now, has become very mumsy and wants to be carried all the time. I can't get stuff done like I used to and on this particular day I was carrying her round the museum. Ugh!

American mum very kindly allowed me to take a snap of her and baby wearing the sling  called the Mei Tai, an ancient Asian design.

I have always loved the way Nigerian women 'back' their babies, but I find it difficult to do and also wanted something a bit more contemporary. I think this is the solution. It has lots of great reviews!

Having scrolled the web, I sourced how to make your own and here are a couple of good instructions:

The Mei Tai make your own sling!

http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/man-tai.shtml  - a very good place to start with lots of other links to variations on the design

http://stilllearninglife.blogspot.com/2008/01/diy-hood-to-headrest-mei-tai-tutorial.html - another good resource with a headrest.

I haven't made mine yet but intend to sometime soonish.

Happy sewing!
